Human Resources Specialist – Part-time Starting pay $10.46/hour
The HR Specialist is responsible for assisting the Human Resources Department in various functions such as data entry, reviewing applications for employment, preparing reports and maintaining personnel files. The HR Specialist reports to the Human Resources Supervisor.
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
- Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
- Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
- Review and process all incoming applications and resumes, including mailing notification of receipt.
- Create and maintain employee personnel records.
- Prepare and participate in surveys as requested.
- Process, and create ID badges.
- Enter data into payroll and time & attendance systems as needed.
- Assist in reviewing and updating job descriptions, Human Resource forms, manuals, and policies.
- Provide training support.
- Assist with employee new hire in-processing and orientation.
- Responsible for updating job line, employment page on Zoo website, and front desk postings.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
- Review time and attendance, enter payroll, and transmit to payroll service biweekly.
- Review, sort, and deliver paychecks on biweekly payday.
- Assist in the preparation of employee incident/accident reporting.
- Review and make corrections to monthly statements (health, dental, and life insurance; 403b investments and union membership dues).
- Assist with planning and coordination of employee events as needed.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Knowledge of ADP payroll software.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
- Associate Degree with some Human Resources coursework preferred.
- Two years experience with payroll & benefits administration.
