Experience Our Real Wild Classroom
Are you looking for an opportunity to extend your teaching beyond the four walls of your classroom? Want to add structure to your Zoo visit and cover the required TEKS at the same time? Then we have an exciting program with you in mind! REAL.WILD.CLASSROOM. gives YOU the opportunity to use the Zoo as your classroom for an entire day.
You know your students, you know your curriculum, and you know what works best! When you book a REAL WILD CLASSROOM program, we provide you a classroom in the Education Center and you teach your students a lesson of your choice with support from an Education
staff member. This program allows teachers to focus on specific concepts and eliminates the overwhelming nature of seeing so much in so little time. You can
teach a topic, such as rainforests, then go out into
the Zoo and discover the animals and exhibits that
relate to your lesson.
Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., you will have the freedom to use both the Education Center and the Zoo to cover your lessons. You will also have use of selected biofacts and a presentation of two handleable animals.
REAL WILD CLASSROOM is available for booking September through May! Our calendar fills up quickly, especially during the spring, so please schedule as soon in advance as possible.
- Class size must be within the range of 15-60 students.
- Teachers will be responsible for planning and conducting classes. An Education representative will be available 9:00 to 11:00 to assist.
- Cost per person will be $10. This cost includes admission to the Zoo, use of a classroom, support staff, use of biofacts/teacher materials, and a presentation of two handleable animals.
- 1 adult for every 5 students is required for grades 3-6, 1 per 10 for grades 7-12.
- Additional chaperones are welcome to participate if they pay the $10 program fee. Because of limited space and classroom management issues no siblings or guests are allowed to attend this program.
- A $50 nonrefundable deposit is required within 2 weeks of your program. If we do not receive a deposit, your program date is not confirmed and may be cancelled or rescheduled.
- Please contact the Education Center as soon in advance as possible if you must cancel or reschedule.
For more information or to make a reservation, please call the Education Center at (210) 734-7184 ext. 1504.
