Zooney Tunes
Can a real naked mole rat stand upright and see clearly? Do coyotes really chase roadrunners? Come to the Zoo this summer, and learn what’s real about animal cartoons and what’s not. We will have a roaring good time investigating the Lion King, Finding Nemo, Madagascar and many other animal cartoons.
Zooper Heroes
Come investigate the wild side of comic book heroes and their arch rivals. We will determine which super powers actually exist in the animal kingdom and the ones that can only be found between the pages of a comic book. Campers will get to choose their own animal super power, and use it to help bring truth and understanding to the world of zooper heroes.
Entering Grades 2-3
Can you Sense it?
How do animals communicate? Join us as we learn how animals use their senses for survival. We will focus on the senses of sight, smell, taste, sound, and touch, as they relate to the animal kingdom.
Critter Conservation
Do you love wild animals? Have you ever wanted to go on an adventure and visit the world’s great ecosystems? Join us, as we explore what critters need to survive in the wild and what zoos are doing to help them. Each day you will experience conservation-oriented activities, and visit a different ecosystem at the Zoo.
Entering Grades 4-6
SCENTsational Time at the Zoo
Ever wonder how animals can see so well at night? We will gather knowledge about an animals’ five senses; sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. These senses allow animals to adapt to their surroundings, and survive in some pretty unique habitats.
Conservation Safari
Have you ever wanted Jeff Corwin’s job? Do you know what it takes to save an endangered species? Today’s wildlife faces all kinds of threats from pollution to loss of habitat. Join us on safari, as we learn about the Zoo’s conservation efforts and what you can do to help. Each day you will experience conservation-oriented activities and hike different ecosystems at the Zoo.
Entering Grades 5-7
Zoo Academy – ASI: Animal Scene Investigations
Can you identify an animal just by looking at its tracks and scat? Could you determine what occurred at an animal scene with only a few clues? Come ready to perform genuine field work using the same techniques and technology used by real wildlife biologists. At this camp you will spend the week using GPS gadgets, conducting water tests, examining animal x-rays, studying animal behavior and investigating tracks and scat.
